ikigai

The Japanese have a word, “ikigai” 生き甲斐 which translates to the reason you get out of bed in the morning. The French have something similar, raison d’être, your reason for being. I call it your purpose…do you know what yours is?

Blue Zones research www.bluezones.com has found that people who know their purpose, their ikigai, live longer, up to seven years longer! People who can articulate their life purpose in one sentence are 20% happier than those who can’t. Knowing your purpose is step one. Using your purpose, or ikigai, as a design principle for your life…well that’s what we’re talking about!

What are your strengths, values and passions? What needs in the world capture your attention? What relationships bring you joy? What are you grateful for? What contributions do you want to make? Take time tomorrow morning and ask yourself… why do I get out of bed this morning?
